    1. Installation Environment Deciding On an Installation Site Install the machine in a quiet and stable location offering good operating conditions. An unsuitable location may cause accidents, fires, faulty operations, or malfunctions. WARNING Install the machine in a location that is level, stable, and able to bear the weight of the machine.

    1. Installation Environment Temperature and Humidity Maintain the specified temperature and humidity even when the machine is not in use. If temperatures are too high or too low, it may cause the machine malfunction. During operation: Temperature 20 to 32˚C (68 to 90˚F), relative humidity 35 to 80% (no condensa- tion) During non-operation: Temperature 5 to 40˚C (41 to 104˚F), relative humidity 20 to 80% (no conden- sation)

    3. Assembling and Installing Step 1: Assembling the Stand – Mounting the Machine WARNING Perform this task with all power switches left switched off. Otherwise sudden movement of the machine may cause injury. CAUTION Unpacking and installation must be carried out by six or more personnel (by six or more personnel for the 30-inch model).

Do not place the media holders too close to the edge so that they will not get caught in the shaft clamps.

When the installation is complete, remove these materials.  Remove all packing materials. If the machine is powered on with any of them remaining, it may cause faulty operation or breakdown.

    4. Connect the Cables Connecting the Cables WARNING Connect to electrical outlet that complies with this machine's ratings (for voltage, frequency, and current). Incorrect voltage or insufficient current may cause fire or electrical shock. WARNING Connect to ground. This can prevent fire or electrical shock due to current leakage in the event of malfunction.

    5. Installing the Ink Cartridges Filling with Ink for the First Time Special procedures are required in installing ink cartridges for the first time. These procedures are required only once when ink cartridges are installed for the first time after shipment from the factory. You first need to clean the print heads using cleaning fluid and then fill with the inks of the respective colors.

    Insert each color ink cartridge into the slot labeled with the matching color. If you insert wrong car- tridges when filling ink, the condition cannot be restored easily. Contact your authorized Roland DG Corp. dealer, if you filled ink with wrong cartridges inserted.

  • Page 36 5. Installing the Ink Cartridges Insert the retainers to the slots 3 and 4. As paying attention to the orientation of the round hole, insert the dummy cartridges to the slots 3 and 4. Insert the dummy cartridge straight as far as it goes. Remove the retainers as holding the dummy cartridges with one hand so that they will not come off.
  • Page 37 5. Installing the Ink Cartridges Pull out the SOL INK cleaning cartridges from the slots 1 and 2. Insert the cleaning cartridges into the slots 1 and 2. Insert the cartridge straight down from the top, as far as it will go. Following the on-screen instructions, repeat the process above one more time.

Installing the Ink Cartridges Continuously, clean the print heads in the order of the slots 3 and 4, the slots 5 and 6, and then the slots 7 and 8 as following the on-screen instructions. Insert and remove the SOL INK cleaning cartridge and dummy cartridge from and into the slot with the slot number indicated on the screen.

When the screen shown in the left is displayed, the cleaning operation is still continued inside the machine.

    6. Installing the Blade CAUTION Be sure to perform operations as specified by these instructions, and never touch any area not specified in the instructions. Sudden movement of the machine may cause injury. CAUTION Never touch the tip of the blade with your fingers. Doing so may result in injury, and the cutting performance of the blade will be impaired.

    7. Network Settings Introduction This machine has a built-in print server as a network interface. When you use the print server, you can send output data to the machine from anywhere on the network. TCP/IP is used as the protocol. Make sure the machine is connected to the network by an Ethernet cable.

The [Local Area Connection Properties] dialog box will appear. Select [Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)] (Win- dows Vista/7) or [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (Windows XP/2000), and then click [Properties].

For the setup procedures, refer to the documentation of the instructions for the software RIP. You can check whether the connection to the network has been complete by using the printing-test feature of the software.

    8. When Not in Use for a Prolonged Period Keep Performing Maintenance Switch On the Power Once a Month Switch on the sub power at least once a month. When you turn on the power, the machine automatically performs some operations, such as one to protect the print heads from drying out. Allowing the machine to stand completely unused for a prolonged period may damage the print heads, so be sure to switch on the power to perform these automatic operations.

    9. When Transferring the Unit Procedures from Preparing for Transfer Through Reinstalling the machine To transfer this machine, you need to secure the print heads in place with the retainers to protect them from damage. If your ink type is the W mode or WMT mode, you also need to circulate the ink manually then. If you transfer the machine without performing such steps, it may cause ink leakage, which can damage the internal devices of the machine, or cause damage to the head.
