ABS CONTROL CYCLE
In order to understand the ABS control cycle, it is necessary to understand the normal control cycle on a
well-gripped road. The ABS control flows at various wheel speeds and brake fluid pressure changes as
shown in the following graph.
Wheel speed
Maintaining the brake
fluid pressure
A When the brakes are suddenly applied, the brake fluid pressure is maintained in order to determine the
change in wheel speed.
B When the wheel speed keeps decreasing and the wheels are almost locking, the brake fluid pressure is
decreased.
C When the wheel speed increases and prevents the wheels from locking, the brake fluid pressure is main-
tained in order to maintain the braking force.
D When increasing road surface friction forces cause the wheel speed to increase, the brake fluid pressure
is increased gradually.
E When the wheel speed is again decreased, the brake fluid pressure is decreased.
