For a 1997 Suzuki VZ800 Marauder, the valve adjustment specifications and procedure are as follows:
Valve Clearance Specifications (when engine is cold): - Intake valves: 0.10 – 0.20 mm (0.004 – 0.008 in) - Exhaust valves: 0.20 – 0.30 mm (0.008 – 0.012 in)
Valve Adjustment Procedure:
1. Preparation: - Ensure the engine is completely cold. - Remove the seat, fuel tank, and any necessary covers to access the valve covers. - Remove the spark plugs to make turning the engine easier.
2. Position the Engine at TDC (Top Dead Center): - Rotate the crankshaft until the piston of the cylinder being adjusted is at TDC on the compression stroke. - Align timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft as specified in the service manual.
3. Check Valve Clearance: - Use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the valve lifter or shim (depending on design). - Compare the readings with the specified clearances.
4. Adjust Valves (Shim-under-bucket system): - If clearance is out of spec, remove the camshaft(s) to access the shims. - Replace the shim with one of appropriate thickness to achieve correct clearance. - Reinstall camshaft(s) and torque to specifications.
5. Recheck Clearance: - After reassembly, rotate the engine by hand and recheck the valve clearances.
7. Final Check: - Start the engine and listen for abnormal noise.
Note: Always refer to torque specifications and follow safety procedures during engine work.

I guess I'm working on a 2003 vz800 I'm not understanding how to time it is can you put you put the rear on top dead center which is number one and then do you roll the motor over to top dead center for the front one and then set the cam to that or do you have to go another $180 degrees or what I don't understand
Need help?
