1. Ask your network administator to assign an Ethernet port
(10Base-T or 10/100Base-T) to your telephone. When the tele-
phone is connected to the network, the Ethernet parameters
are configured automatically.
2. Ask the administrator if the network contains a DHCP server
and a SNTP server.
If no DHCP server exists he or she has to provide you with IP
addresses for the telephone and the default router as well as
with the subnet mask, which you have to enter into your tele-
phone manually.
If no SNTP server exists, you have to enter time and date man-
ually into your telephone.
If a DHCP server exists, continue on page 6, if no DHCP server
exists, continue on page 8.
Like all terminal equipment connected to a LAN, the
optiPoint 400 standard SIP must have an IP address assigned.
The procedure for setting up the network environment for the tele-
phone is described below.
The telephone is only then reachable via an E164 num-
ber or Unified Resorce Locator (URL), when there is a
SIP Server in the IP network, and when the telephone
successfully has registered with this SIP server.
Otherwise it is only reachable via IP address.
If the optiPoint 400 standard SIP is used in an environment with
an integrated DHCP server, the telephone unit will automatically
get an IP address from it when you connect the DHCP server to
the LAN for the first time. Otherwise, you must manually enter an
IP address for the unit. You have to enter manually the unit's tele-
phone number in any case.
