6.10 PC PROGRAMMING

(see Figure 6–2)
To program the system via a personal computer (PC) connect a PC equipped with the
Samsung proprietary program, PCMMC to one of the serial interface connectors (DB9)
on an SIO2 option board
(see Figure 3–2).
In order to prevent damage to the PC or
the DS 616 system, before connecting the PC, ensure that the system power is
turned OFF. Any external battery if installed should also be removed.
Use a pin to pin RS232C cable
(see Figure 6–2 for cable pin-outs).
When the personal
computer needs to be more than 15 feet away from the system, shielded computer
cable is required. Connect a male DB9 connector to the SIO2 board and then connect
the other end of the cable to the computer, utilizing the appropriate connector type.
The cable must not exceed 300 meters.
The signal DCD (1) and RTS (7) are optional – the system does not refer to the signal
status. For some equipment, the DSR (6) may not detect the DTR signal from the
external device. In this case, connect the DTR signal wire to the DCS (pin 1) of the DS
616 serial interface.
Use MMC 804 to set the transmission parameters and the SMISC port.

6.11 REMOTE PROGRAMMING

(see Figure 6–3)
To remotely program the system, connect a customer-provided modem to one of serial
interface connectors (DB9) on the SIO2 option board
(see Figure 3–2).
Before
connecting the modem, be assured that the system power is turned OFF. In order to
prevent damage to the modem or the DS 616 system, before connecting PC,
ensure that the system power is turned OFF. Any external battery if installed
should also be removed.
Use a pin to pin RS232C cable
(see Figure 6–3 for cable pin-outs).
When the modem
needs to be more than 15 feet away from the system, shielded computer cable is
required. Connect a male DB9 connector to the SIO2 board and then connect the other
end of the cable to a modem, utilizing the appropriate connector type. The cable must
not exceed 300 feet.
Use MMC 804 to set the transmission parameters and the SIO2 port to be used.
