10. Hold the new microprocessor and align the notches
microprocessor socket, or align the small triangle
corresponding beveled corner of the microprocessor socket.

11. Lower the new microprocessor straight down into the microprocessor socket on the system board.
12. Close the microprocessor retainer and lock it into position with the small handle to secure the new
microprocessor in the socket.
13. Install the heat sink assembly. See "Replacing the heat sink assembly" on page 99.
14. Install the system board shield. See "Removing and installing the system board shield" on page 88.

Installing or replacing a memory module

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Safety information" on page 1.
This section provides instructions on how to install or replace a memory module.
Your computer has two memory slots for installing or replacing double data rate 3 small outline dual inline
memory modules (DDR3 SODIMMs). When installing or replacing a memory module, use 2 GB, 4 GB or 8
GB DDR3 SODIMMs in any combination up to a maximum of 16 GB of system memory.
To install or replace a memory module, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect
all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Place a soft, clean towel or cloth on the desk or other flat surface. Hold the sides of your computer and
gently lay it down so that the screen is against the surface and the cover is facing up.
