  • Page 47: Chapter 4. Configuring The Terminal

Introduction This chapter describes the Terminal Configuration Manager (TCM), and how it is used to specify and load files into the flash memory of the PPT 2700 using the terminal’s Initial Program Loader (IPL). TCM creates a table which lists the type of information, or “partitions”, to download to the terminal.
  • Page 48: Non-Ffs Partitions

If necessary, the entire OS image may be downloaded to the terminal using files provided by Symbol. The current OS partition on the terminal is included as part of the TCM installation package. Any upgrades must be obtained from Symbol. This partition is mandatory for the PPT 2700.
  • Page 49: Installing Tcm

    4. Download all or selected hex destination files to the terminal. Installing TCM Installing the Symbol Windows CE SDK copies TCM to the folder C:\Symbol Windows CE SDK\Tools\TCM which contains the main executable and its support files. Installation sets up all of the source and destination folders and files for non-FFS partitions, and creates all the folders and files needed for FFS partitions along with source files.
  • Page 50: Configuration File

PPT 2700 Series Product Reference Guide Launching TCM displays the Main Screen. This screen displays a partition table based on information in the selected configuration (.ini) file. You can modify some items in this table and either save them in the original file or create a new file.
  • Page 51: View Bar

Following are descriptions of each column and the properties associated with it. Partition Name Lists partitions pre-configured by Symbol for the selected .ini configuration file. Attribute For FFS partitions, double-click on a cell in this column to display a dialog box where you can view partition attributes.
  • Page 52 Set this bit if the partition area is executed rather than burned to flash. This bit is not used for the PPT 2700, and must be set to 0 for all partitions to indicate that the area is not held in Flash.
  • Page 53 Configuring the Terminal Size The user-specified size of the FFS partition, and may be rounded for more efficient partition fitting. Partition size must be greater than or equal to the size specified in the Required Size column. Required Size TCM calculates the size of the partition and displays this as the partition's required size. For FSS Partitions, this size depends on the folders and files in the Source Root Directory.

Use this method for small files that don't need compression.

Configuring the Terminal For non-FFS partitions, the source path identifies the file that TCM converts to a hex destination file. Destination The destination path indicates the location of the hex destination file that TCM will download to the terminal. Double-click on a cell in this column to specify a folder into which TCM will place the hex destination file.
