Engine protection mode

Gi, GSi
In a low oil pressure or engine overheat situation, the
EFI system enters an Engine Protection Mode. In the-
se situations, normal engine operation is limited to 2500
to 2700 RPM or less. Above 2500 to 2700 RPM the
engine will exhibit poor running characteristics. Use the
oil pressure and water temperature gauges to verify a
problem exists, then check the engine crankcase for
proper oil level and the water inlets for obstructions.
The low oil pressure/engine overheat problem must be
corrected before the engine will return to normal opera-
tion.
To reset the Engine Protection Mode after the problem
is corrected, allow the engine to cool and then continue
with normal operation.
NOTE: Should the problem continue, contact your
nearest Volvo Penta dealer and have the engine
checked.
Master/slave installation
Gi, GSi
For twin unit installations both engine EMCs can be tied
together electronically. One engine will then be the
"master" engine and the other will be the "slave" engine.
The starboard engine or the engine with the power stee-
ring pump is always connected as the "master" engine.
If one engine has a fault that causes it to go into Engi-
ne Protection Mode (low oil pressure or engine over-
heat) the other engine will also go into Engine Protec-
tion Mode.

High altitude operation

Engines with carburetors only
A performance loss at altitudes above 1600 m (5000 ft.)
can be expected. If you are boating above 1600 m alti-
tude for a short time, a lower pitch propeller will restore
some of the lost performance. Long term use above alt-
itudes of 1600 m may require carburetter adjustment.
