Frequently Asked Questions (6)

  • What type of contaminants does the Kenmore 625.75130 Water System remove?

The Kenmore water softener is designed to remove hardness minerals from water, measured in grains per gallon (gpg). It also removes some clear water iron, measured in parts per million (ppm).

According to performance claims, the system removes:

  • What does a blinking light on my Kenmore 625.75130 Water System indicate?

A blinking light on your Kenmore water softener can indicate:

    • Low Salt: The "LOW SALT indicator" will flash when the salt level reaches a preset low level, which can be adjusted using the SIGNAL LIGHT ADJUST button.
    • Power Outage: If the time display is flashing, it indicates that power was off for a long period, and you may need to reset the present time. The softener will still operate, but regenerations might occur at the wrong time.
    • Error Code: If an error code (e.g., "Err3") is displayed and flashing, you should refer to the "Troubleshooting" section of the manual.
    • Recharge Tonight: If "RECHARGE TONIGHT" begins flashing in the display, it means the softener is set to regenerate at the next preset recharge time.

  • How do I prepare the Kenmore 625.75130 Water System for first-time use?

To prepare the water softener for first-time use, follow these steps:

    1. Installation:

      • Turn off the water supply to your house.
      • Shut off the gas or electric supply to the water heater.
      • Open the highest and lowest water faucets to drain pipes, then close them.
      • Remove the top cover of the softener.
      • Install the single bypass valve and/or threaded installation adaptors by coating O-rings with silicone grease, pushing them into the softener valve's inlet and outlet ports, and snapping the large holding clips into place.
      • Assemble inlet and outlet plumbing to the main water pipe, ensuring the incoming water supply goes to the valve inlet side.
      • Connect the valve drain hose to the drain fitting and route it to a floor drain, laundry tub, or standpipe, maintaining a 4 cm air gap.
      • Connect the salt tank overflow hose by pushing the grommet into the salt tank wall, attaching the adaptor, and routing the tubing to a floor drain.
      • Install covers after plumbing is complete.
      • Connect to electrical power by plugging the transformer into a grounded, 120-volt outlet that is always "live" and protected from weather.
      • Restore electrical continuity in your metal plumbing system if a non-metallic bypass valve was installed.
      • Restart the water heater by turning on the gas or electric supply and lighting the pilot.
    2. Leak Test:

      • Fully open two nearby cold water faucets downstream from the softener.
      • Place bypass valve(s) in "bypass" position.
      • Fully open the house main water pipe shutoff valve.
      • Place bypass valve(s) in "SERVICE" position gradually to pressurize the softener.
      • Open a hot water faucet for about one minute to expel air, then close.
      • Close both cold water faucets and check for leaks.
    3. Sanitizing the Water Softener:

      • Open the salt lid, remove the brinewell cover, and pour about 90 ml (6 tablespoons) of household bleach into the softener brinewell. Replace the brinewell cover.
      • Ensure the bypass valve(s) is in the "service" (open) position.
      • Start a recharge by pressing and holding the ON/OFF-HOLD button for 3 seconds until "RECHARGE", "Serv", and "Fill" flash in the display.
      • After recharge, fully open a cold water faucet downstream from the softener and allow 190 liters of water to pass through for at least 20 minutes, then close the faucet.
    4. Adding Salt to the Storage Tank:

      • Add salt to the tank, using NUGGET or PELLET water softener salt.
    5. Programming the Softener:

To properly clean and maintain your Kenmore water softener:

    • Sanitizing:

      • Periodically, you can sanitize the water softener by pouring about 90 ml (6 tablespoons) of household bleach into the softener brinewell.
      • Then, start a recharge cycle by pressing and holding the ON/OFF-HOLD button for 3 seconds until "RECHARGE", "Serv", and "Fill" begin to flash.
      • After recharge, fully open a cold water faucet downstream and allow 190 liters of water to pass through for at least 20 minutes.
    • Salt Tank Maintenance:

      • Keep salt in the tank, but it's not always necessary to fill it completely, especially in humid areas.
      • Use NUGGET or PELLET water softener salt; do not use rock salts as they contain dirt and sediments.
      • Clean out the salt tank every 2 to 3 years to maintain optimum performance.
      • If using Potassium Chloride (KCl) salt, check the brine tank and brinewell monthly for hardening and pour small amounts of warm water onto hardened areas until they loosen.

I had a power failure, after a power surge. Two days later, after the power came back, my softener went blank, screen was black, no error messages, select 1 button inoperative, nothing. Is there a way to reset the softener? Thanks. This was with a Kenmore UltraSoft 400, model 625.75130.

To reset the Kenmore UltraSoft 400 water softener model 625.75130 after a power failure:

1. Plug the transformer into a live, grounded wall outlet.
2. Ensure the power cable is securely fastened to the controller.
3. Press the SELECT 1 button twice to access the hardness setting.
4. Verify and adjust the hardness setting as needed using a water hardness test.
5. Press the SELECT 1 button several more times to return to the present time display.

This resets and confirms system settings after power is restored.
