selective
fit
bearings do
not
bring the
clearance within desired
limits,
grind
the
crankshaft
journal and/or journals and install
undersize bearings.
NOTE: Normally, main bearing journals
wear
evenly
and are not
out-o/~round.
However,
if
a bearing i.
being filled

oul-o
f-round journal,
be sure
10
fil
the bearing to the maximum
diameter
of the journal.
If Ihe bearing i. filled
10
the
minimum
diameter
with
minimum clearance,
interference
may
re8uit, causing
an early failure. It i3 not
recommended that bearings

which
is
more than
O.OOl-inch out-of-round.
(3) THRUST BEA.RING A.LlGNMENT.
Install the
main
bearing caps, except
the
thrust bearing cap, and
tighten the cap bolts to specifications.
Install the thrust
bearing
cap
with the bolts finger-tight,
then
pry
the
crankshaft forward to properly position the thrust
surface of
the upper half of the bearing (fig. 35)
.
While
holding
the
crankshaft forward, pry the thrust bearing
cap to the
rear
(fig. 36).

will
align
the thrust
