The buttons at the bottom of the screen provide various functions:

Pencil marks
Cross-hatching

Removes your previous mark or undo your last
action.
Turns pencil marks on or off to toggle between
your notes and answers.
Selects a number to cross-hatch.
Pauses the board timer and makes the board
invisible. Tap this button again to resume the timer
and reveal the board.
Gets a hint from the Sudoku Master. (The hinted
number will flash twice.)
