Steps for Configuring the Log Server

ESXi 5.0 or later version does not include a service console. Therefore, this model achieves the syslog reporting
by forwarding the logs generated by ESXi to the log server on which NEC ESMPRO Agent is installed.
To use ftSys Management Appliance as the log server, no additional steps are required after following the steps
in Chapter 1 (1.10 Installing Additional Packages
server) and Chapter 2 (Install NEC ESMPRO Agent) of this document, because the log server will be
automatically configured and forwarding the logs generated by the ESXi becomes available.
To install a separate log server, additional settings are required on the log server side. This appendix describes
example steps to configure a Linux server as the log server. Configuring the log server settings will be
completed by following the steps in (3.1 Setting Firewall for Log Server) through (3.4 Starting Transferring
Logs).
Before following the steps, make sure that the settings described in Chapter 1 are configured. Note that the
instructions are provided based on the assumption that NEC ESMPRO Agent has been installed on the
separate log server, and also the settings (editing snmpd.conf, opening ports, etc.) for NEC ESMPRO Agent
have already been configured. For these settings, refer to the manual of NEC ESMPRO Agent.
