WATER HEATER

Several options are available in the water heater appliances. (1.) 6 or 10 gallon capacities,
depending on floor plan. (2.) Three types of energy, LP gas only, LP gas and 120-volt
combination, and 12-volt/LP gas combination with 110-volt. Water temperature is
adjustable on pilot and 120-volt models, but not on combo unit.

Pilot Operation

CAUTION: Do not tamper with the pilot orifice. High water temperature and
failure of the gas control could result.
1. Turn lighting control (fig. 26B or 27B) to "OFF" position.
2. Wait at least five minutes to allow gas which may have accumulated in burner
compartment to escape.
3. Note that your water heater may have either a "White Rodgers" or Robertshaw
"Unitrol" Control.
FOR "WHITE RODGERS" CONTROL (FIG. 26)
a. Turn lighting control knob (fig. 26B) to "pilot"
position and hold against stop while lighting
pilot burner (fig. 28D)
b. Allow pilot to burn approximately one half
minute before releasing lighting control knob.
c. Turn lighting control knob (fig. 26B) to "ON"
position.
d. If pilot does not remain lit, repeat operation
allowing longer period before releasing lighting
control knob.
e. Set the temperature selection lever (fig. 26A) at the mark between the warm
and hot position.
f. Close access door.
FOR A ROBERTSHAW "UNITROL" (FIG. 27)
a. Turn lighting control dial (fig. 27B) to "pilot"
position.
b. Depress and hold reset push button (fig. 27A)
while lighting pilot burner (fig. 28D).
c. Allow pilot to burn for one half minute before
releasing reset push button.
d. If pilot does not remain lit, repeat operation
allowing longer period before releasing reset
push button.
e. Turn lighting control dial (fig. 27B) to "ON" position.
f. Set the temperature control dial (fig. 27C) at the midpoint position between
warm and hot.
g. Close access door.
4. For complete shut down and before servicing, turn lighting control knob (fig. 26B or
27B) to "OFF" position.
CAUTION: Setting the temperature control dial at a higher position will produce
water that is hotter, increasing the risk scalding.
