CHAPTER 3 OPERATING AND USING YOUR MINI-MOTORHOME Your mini-motorhome has been designed and built to give you maximum comfort in a camping or recreational setting. Operating your motorhome may be a new experience for you. Use extra caution in turning corners, climbing hills, stopping and other traffic conditions until you become familiar and comfortable with its operation and handling.
WARNING: DO NOT overload your mini-motorhome. Overloading either the front axle, rear axle or behind the rear axle may result in adverse handling characteristics and damage to the chassis. Follow the GVWR when loading your vehicle for safety. HITCH – SEE CHAPTER 7 “OPTIONS” LOADING CARGO The loading of travel and camping equipment along with food and liquids requires careful consideration.
Distributing weight throughout the coach will enable the mini-motorhome to handle and perform well during travel. When you are finished loading the mini-motorhome, weigh the vehicle. Weigh each axle separately and the total mini-motorhome. Reducing liquids to a minimum may allow additional capacity for personal items.
For the recreation vehicle section, the dinette, sofa, and barrel chairs have a two-point lap seat belts installed. To operate, slide the loose end of the seat belt into the buckle until it “clicks” in place. Adjust by pulling the loose strap end until it fits snugly on your upper lap.
Warning: Low levels of CO have been linked to brain and vital organ damage to unborn infants with no effect on the mother. Pregnant women should leave the unit immediately if an alarm is sounded and not return until the unit has been repaired and aired out thoroughly. •...

SET-UP FOR CAMPING Leveling your RV is important for several reasons: 1. Refrigerator is designed to operate when level for best performance due to the absorption system. 2. Water drainage systems are designed with proper slope and must be level for proper operation.
Special interest publications, such as articles and books offered through TL Enterprises (Trailer Life, Motorhome, etc.) can offer you additional, practical advice on the proper storage of your camper. Damage from rodents or insects are NOT covered under your Jayco Limited Warranty.
CHAPTER 4 THE SYSTEMS WATER AND DRAINAGE PLUMBING Included in your Jayco recreational vehicle is a complete fresh water system. Each component is explained along with its operation. Tanks – Container A water container is permanently installed in your recreational vehicle. On some models it is located inside of the coach under a bed, dinette or sofa.
Fig. #5 CAUTION: Excessive pressure from water supply may be encountered in some parks, especially in mountain regions. Water pressure regulators are available to protect your system against such high pressure. A regulator of this type is recom- mended to prevent damage to plumbing systems or components. A 45 pound rating is suggested.
Outside Shower (Optional) A convenient faucet assembly with hot and cold water is available for exterior use washing or rinsing on the outside of camper. OPERATION 1. Open door with key and allow to hinge down; or on units with the utility center, open door to utility center.

After the water heater and water lines fill, the air will stop bubbling out of the faucets. At this point, turn all faucets off. Please note, the water heater will hold approximately six gallons of water.
Bath and Shower Your bathroom facilities function similar to those in your home. Prepare your bath or shower curtains to prevent water from spilling onto floor. Be sure water heater is in operation before bathing. Adjust the faucets for desired temperature before entering tub or shower.
SANITATION SYSTEM Toilets Two types or models of toilets are used on Jayco motorhomes. One is the Starlight/ Galaxy model featuring two foot pedals for flushing. The second type, the Aqua Magic 4, features two levers on the back side to flush the toilet.
MAINTENANCE – AQUA MAGIC 4 The Aqua Magic 4 does not require routine maintenance except for cleaning. In some installations the seat and cover can be removed to facilitate cleaning. To remove seat, both seat and cover should be in the open (up) position. Grasp assembly on both sides and pull away from you in an upward angle of approximately 45°.
Canada. Failure to prepare the coach will cause supply lines and water heater to freeze causing breakage. Repairs due to freezing are not to be covered under the terms of your Jayco Limited Warranty. Two methods of winterizing your coach after draining and flushing your drainage system are listed below.

UNITS WITH UTILITY CENTER Drain the water tank and water heater completely by turning all faucets on until tank and heater are empty. Open the three low point drain valves (LPD1, LPD2, LPD3) located in the utility center. When water stops flowing out of them, close the valves. (Fig. 17) Open water heater bypass valve C and close valves A and B.
USING THE WATER SYSTEM DURING FREEZING WEATHER Please keep in mind that your motorhome was not designed for use during sub-freezing weather. There is no commodity or product that can be added to the fresh water systems to ensure freeze protection while the system is in use, other than RV antifreeze. Do not drink water with antifreeze.
Page 45
DO NOT use tools or heavy equipment to open or close valves on the containers. HAND TIGHTEN only. There are four components attached to tank for filling and dispensing the fuel: 1. Gas Fill Valve: attach the fill hose before opening valve. Unless you are filling the tank, keep the cap on at all times.
WARNING: Never smoke while filling the LP tanks. Keep the RV away from immediate filling area when possible or extinguish all gas pilot lights. When an LP tank is low, occasionally there is a concentration of garlic-like odor which may be mistaken for a gas leak. After a change over to a full tank, the odor usually will disappear.
MAIN SUPPLY HOSE The main supply hose will be attached from the regulator to the brass manifold fitting in the frame of the coach. Swivel brass nut on main hose is the final attachment. Operation After the camper is completely set up and you are prepared for camping enjoyment, follow these steps for LP gas operation.
WARNING: It is not safe to use cooking appliance for comfort heating. Cooking appliances need fresh air for safe operation. Before operation: 1. Open overhead vent. 2. Turn on exhaust fan. 3. Open window. Unlike homes, the amount of oxygen supply is limited due to the size of the recreational vehicle.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM General The electrical system in the recreational vehicle is composed of 120-volt AC (alternating current) and 12-volt DC (direct current) capabilities. All installations are made in compliance with safety requirements of ANSI standard A.1192 National Electric Code, Canadian Standards Association, NFFA-70. Wiring code for 120-volt AC system is: Black Hot or positive...
The ground pin on the mini-motorhome power plug is a means of connecting all grounds on the mini-motorhome to the incoming power receptacle that is connected to earth ground completing circuitry. WARNING: NEVER remove a grounding pin in any cord or plug. It may mean the difference between LIFE OR DEATH.
Consumption of 120-Volt Energy As owners desire and purchase more convenience appliances, remember that your motorhome has a maximum of 30 amps of incoming power. Keep in mind that each appliance, when used in conjunction with each other, places an added draw on your 30-amp system.
12-VOLT DC Note terminals 1 through 4 are NOT designated in each coach at present point and may vary between coaches. Terminals 5 and 6 are pre-designated in all coaches. Terminals 7 through 9 are true DC lines, such as #7 is assigned to TV antenna use. Terminals #8 and #9 are open.
All auxiliary batteries require an “in-line” fuse or a 12-volt breaker placed within 18" of battery for your protection. Maintenance is a normal requirement on all batteries for maximum performance. 1. Keep all terminals clean and tight. 2. Keep the battery filled with water as cells without water cannot hold a charge of energy.
Auxiliary Start System Your motorhome can momentarily connect both batteries should the chassis battery become discharged for some reason. Press the button on the dash, located on the left side of the steering column, and hold. Now use the ignition switch to start the engine. Release the button after the engine has started.

CHAPTER 5 APPLIANCES GENERAL All appliances in your Jayco RV are name brand quality built equipment, guided by current code and standards. Appliances are designed to operate using LP gas only, not on natural gas. Included with each coach are specific operation manuals, written and published by the manufacturer for each appliance.
Fig. #23 For Your Safety Read Before Operating WARNING: If these instructions are not followed precisely, a fire or explo- sion may result causing property damage, personal injury or loss of life. A. This appliance does not have a pilot light. It is equipped with an ignition device that automatically lights the burner.
7. Wait five minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, including near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “C” in the safety information. If you do not smell gas, go to the next step. 8. Turn the valve power switch on to the valve. 9.
As power is applied to the DSI board, the system does the following: 1. A timing circuit allows the blower to purge the chamber. 2. The board supplies current to the gas valve and causes it to open. A manual electrical switch is provided and must be in the “on”...
RANGE AND OVEN TOP BURNER OPERATION Warning: Personal Injury Hazard • Do not touch top burners, burner grates or other areas near top burners. These areas become hot enough to cause burns. During and after use, do not let clothing or other flammable materials contact top burners or areas near top burners until they have had sufficient time to cool.
Warning: Personal Injury Hazard • Do not touch the inner surfaces of the oven or oven door or the wire rack inside during and after use until these areas have had sufficient time to cool. During and after use, do not let clothing or other flammable materials contact these areas until they have had sufficient time to cool.
WATER HEATER Several options are available in the water heater appliances. (1.) 6 or 10 gallon capacities, depending on floor plan. (2.) Three types of energy, LP gas only, LP gas and 120-volt combination, and 12-volt/LP gas combination with 110-volt. Water temperature is adjustable on pilot and 120-volt models, but not on combo unit.
The temperature knob or lever is factory adjusted to its lowest dial setting. It is recommended that the midpoint position between warm and hot be used. This will provide for energy efficient operation and sufficient hot water. Valves for reducing point of use temperature by mixing cold and hot water are available.
Electric Operation 1. For gas operation refer to Pilot Operation or Electronic Ignition Operation section. 2. For electrical operation, use the switch at the rear of water heater. 3. Completely fill tank with water. 4. Turn switch (figure 30B) located at the rear of the water heaters to the “ON”...
REFRIGERATOR This appliance in your Jayco recreational vehicle has been designed by its manufacturer to operate on 120-volt AC electric or on LP gas energy. Its performance depends on numerous factors such as energy, venting, leveling, humidity and atmosphere tempera- tures.
Defrosting and Cleaning Your refrigerator is not frost free and will require periodic defrosting. To defrost, turn the refrigerator off. Empty the freezer and the fresh food compartments. Placing a pan of hot water in the freezer will reduce the defrosting time. Leave the drip tray under the cooling fins.
Except for DC operation (three-way models) it is evident that the 12-volt demand is quite low; nevertheless, the refrigerator should not be operated for long periods of time from a battery only, without a means of recharging through the alternator or converter. Controls CAUTION: Never allow water to be sprayed directly on electrical controls located behind the inlet vent door.
The TEMP SET (thermostat) button (D) controls the refrigerator and freezer temperature during both gas and electric operation, eliminating the need to reset each time a different energy source is selected. Press and hold the TEMP SET button to select the desired temperature setting.
Backup Operating System (BOS) Your refrigerator features a back-up operating system which provides a means for the refrigerator to cool in the event of a failure within the refrigerator’s operating controls. In the event this failure occurs, the refrigerator will display diagnostic code C5 and will switch automatically to the BOS mode.
MONITOR PANEL This electronic control panel and information center is built into the range hood above the stove and oven. Information data and controls are at eye level for easy operation. Energy to operate panel is 12-volt DC, supplied by auxiliary battery and/or power center. Fuse is located in the power center also.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE EXTERIOR Roof Two different types of roof material are used on Jayco motorhomes; rubber EPDM or mill-finished aluminum. Both are laminated to the roof structure. ALUMINUM The roof is smooth mill-finished aluminum. To clean, use a mild detergent soap and water solution.
Paneling The wall paneling in your new Jayco is a vinyl covered panel. If deep scratches occur, putty sticks can be used to cover scratches on wood surfaces. These can be obtained from hardware stores and lumber yards.
Use a mild detergent soap and water, Bon Ami or Bar Keeper’s Friend to clean the tub surface. For any type of repair work, see your authorized Jayco dealer. Hardware and Sink or Shower Fixtures Use mild dish soap and water to clean these fixtures. Never use harsh chemicals or sprays, such as Windex or Pledge.
CHAPTER 7 OPTIONS Note: Each item listed in this chapter is an option as the coach is built by Jayco. AIR CONDITIONER Air conditioners may be installed by the Jayco factory or by your dealer. If you did not buy your motorhome with the optional air conditioner, one of your roof vents may be pre-wired for later installation.
CAUTION: When opening door from the outside, ensure that you are not in the path of the step. Due to external exposure, lubricate movement points on step as listed in the manufacturer’s instruction manual. Operating the Step 1. After the installation is complete, with the entrance door open, turn the power switch 2.
HEATED HOLDING TANKS With the heated tank option, a pad will be glued to the exterior bottom side of the holding tank. Heat is supplied by 12-volt DC power through the heating element built into the pad. Approximately 6-amps of energy per pad is consumed and fused through the 12-volt power supply board.
SPARE TIRE CARRIER The following procedures should be used in securing the spare tire in the travel position: 1. Put the steel hoist lift support located on the end of the cable through the rim of the tire. Clips need to seat inside of the hole. Valve stem of the tire MUST be pointed in the down position or away from the bottom of the coach.
