How do you run on 12 volt system when not plugged in?

To operate the 2016 Jayco Eagle on a 12-volt system when not plugged in:

1. Ensure the auxiliary battery is charged. It powers interior 12-volt components such as lighting, water pump, 12-volt motors, and appliances.
2. The water pump will work using battery power, but sufficient 12-volt DC power is needed.
3. The breakaway switch and other safety functions also rely on the auxiliary battery.
4. The battery can be charged by the tow vehicle’s alternator when the engine is running and the 7-way trailer plug is connected.

Make sure the battery disconnect switch (if equipped) is in the correct position to allow power flow.

Battery connection

Mr. Anderson
March 28, 2025

To connect the battery for a 2016 Jayco Eagle:

1. Use a Group 27 deep cycle battery as a replacement.
2. Install the battery in parallel with the tow vehicle battery if using a 7-way trailer plug.
3. When connected, both batteries power the RV. To avoid draining the tow vehicle battery, disconnect the 7-way plug or install a battery isolator.
4. If storing the RV, disconnect the auxiliary battery negative cable to prevent discharge.
5. Check battery voltage monthly and recharge as needed.
6. Store the battery in a dry, cool area if removed.

Do not reverse the battery polarity during installation.

You may also notice a lack of efficiency in heating the water because of incomplete combustion of the burner at these higher altitudes.
  • Page 106 JAYCO TOWABLE SECTION 8-PLUMBING SYSTEMS If the recreation vehicle is to be stored over the winter months, the water heater must be drained to prevent damage from freezing. Damage to the water heater caused by freezing is not warrantable. It is recommended the water heater be drained and bypassed during the winterization process, particularly if introducing RV antifreeze into the plumbing system.

Prior to using the sanitation system, it is strongly recommended to flush the toilet several times to release sufficient water into the holding tank. If there is not a sufficient amount of water used during flushing, the waste materials may not evacuate properly from the drain line to the tank.
  • Page 124 JAYCO TOWABLE SECTION 8-PLUMBING SYSTEMS Cleaning & Maintenance The toilet should be cleaned regularly for maximum sanitation and operational efficiency. CAUTION Do not use chlorine (undiluted) or caustic chemicals, such as laundry bleach or drain opening types, in the toilet system. These products damage the seals in toilets and dump valves.
