shiftable gear may be changed. It can make the vehicle unstable.
Be careful not to touch the selector lever while driving (especially
12
during the winter season).
• Do not downshift abruptly (3, 2, or 1) when the vehicle speed is
13
high (D or 4). You could lose control and hit people or objects
(especially on a slippery road).
14
• If low-range maximum speeds are exceeded when the selector

TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE SYSTEM
Page 10
• In this position, you can only use the 1st gear in the
transmission. Use this position on long mountainous
terrains, steep hills, and rough off-road. This also provides
the engine brake effect on steep downhills.
• The drive position prevents the transmission from shift-
ing into the third or fourth gear. Select drive range 2 for
more power when climbing hills, for the engine braking
effects when driving down steep hills.
• At this position, the transmission is automatically shifted
from the 1st gear up to the 3rd gear according to the ve-
hicle speed. You can get the engine brake effect when us-
ing this position during downhill driving.
• Select this position for normal forward driving on paved
roads. In this position, the transmission is automatically
shifted from the 1st gear up to the 4th gear according to
the vehicle speed.
