12. Engine "misses"
at rated speed
and under load.

PROBABLE CAUSE
A. Fault in ignition
system.
(1) Spark plugs
faulty.
(2) Distributor
(E405) faulty.
(3) Defective igni-
tion coil. (L402)
B. Fault in fuel system.
(1) Defective carbu-
retor, float
level too low, or
dirt in carburetor.
(2) Defective fuel
pump.
C. Mechanical fault in
engine such as burned
valve, defective pis-
ton rings, "blown"
head gasket, etc.
TEST, CHECK, AND/OR
REMEDY
A. Check and correct as follows:
(1) Clean spark plugs and
re-gap them. (.042" to
.046"). Replace any plugs
found to be defective.
(2) Check distributor accord-
ing to Ford Maintenance
and Operator's Manual.
Service or replace items
as necessary.
(3) Check ignition coil accord-
ing to Ford Maintenance
and Operator's Manual.
Replace coil if defective.
B. Check and correct as follows:
(1) Check carburetor. Replace
if necessary and send old
carburetor to overhaul.
(2) Check fuel pump pressure.
If pressure is low,
replace pump.
C. Check engine compression to
determine fault. Send unit
to overhaul.
