Starter Motor Will Not Crank Engine, Or Cranks Slow
Possible Cause
Battery switch turned off.
Remote control not in neutral position.
Open circuit breaker or blown fuse.
Loose or dirty electrical connections or damaged
Bad battery.
CA443
Engine Will Not Start, Or Is Hard To Start
Possible Cause
Improper starting procedure.
Empty fuel tank or fuel shutoff valve closed.
Faulty fuel pump.
Choke not operating properly.
Engine Flooded.
Faulty ignition system component.
Clogged fuel filters.
Stale or contaminated fuel.
Fuel line or tank vent line kinked or clogged.
EFI System Fault (If So Equipped).

Troubleshooting

wiring.
Remedy
Turn switch on.
Position control lever in neutral.
Check and reset circuit breaker or replace fuse.
Check all electrical connections and wires
(especially battery cables). Clean and tighten faulty
connection.
Test and replace if bad.
Remedy
Read starting procedure.
Fill tank or open valve.
Carburetor Models: Check sight tube for fuel.
Have Authorized MerCruiser Dealer replace pump, if
fuel is present.
Carburetor Models: Check choke linkages for
freedom of movement.
Do not attempt to start engine for at least 5 minutes.
Refer to Starting Procedures.
Service ignition system.
Replace filters.
If contaminated, drain tank Fill with fresh fuel.
Replace kinked lines or blow out lines with
compressed air to remove obstruction.
Have EFI System checked by an Authorized
MerCruiser Dealer.
