Engine Will Not Crank

Possible Causes
Battery switch turned "OFF."
Gearshift not in neutral
position.
Open circuit breaker or blown
fuse.
Loose or dirty electrical
connections or damaged
wiring.
Defective battery.
Defective starter.
Flywheel ring gear is
damaged.
Engine is seized.
Faulty ignition switch.

Engine Cranks But Will Not Start

Possible Cause
Improper starting procedure.
Low battery voltage.
Empty fuel tank or fuel shut off valve
closed.
Faulty fuel pump, wiring, fuel pump
fuse, 50‑amp circuit breaker or a fuel
pump relay.
Faulty ignition system component.
Lanyard stop activated.
Obstructed fuel filter.
Stale or contaminated fuel.
Fuel line or tank vent line kinked or
restricted.
Crankshaft position sensor faulty.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Turn switch "ON."
Position control lever to neutral.
Check and reset circuit breaker or replace
fuse.
Check all electrical connections and wires
(especially battery cables). Clean and tighten
faulty connection.
Test and replace if defective.
Test and replace if defective.
Confirm diagnostic and replace flywheel.
Check to see if engine can be rotated by hand
with the spark plugs removed. If not, then
determine cause.
Test wire with a remote starter switch at the
starter motor.

Charge the battery.
Fill tank or open valve.
Replace faulty component.
Service ignition system.
Reset.
Replace filters.
If contaminated, drain tank and fill with
fresh fuel.
Replace kinked lines or blow out lines
