Installing the adapter
Complete the following steps to install the Remote Supervisor Adapter II in an
xSeries server:
1. Turn off the server and attached devices, and disconnect all power cords
and external cables.
2. Remove the server from the rack cabinet (if applicable).
3. Remove the server cover. For instructions, see the documentation that
comes with your server.
4. Using Table 1, determine which expansion slot you will use for the
Remote Supervisor Adapter II.

For installation information for supported xSeries servers not listed in this table, see
the documentation that comes with your server.
Attention: Expansion-slot covers must be installed on all vacant slots.
This maintains the electronic emission characteristics of the server and
ensures proper cooling of server components.
5. Remove the expansion-slot cover. Store it in a safe place for future use.
Attention: Avoid touching the components and gold-edge connectors on
the adapter.
6. Connect the 20-pin ribbon cable to the system board using the procedure
in "Connecting the 20-pin ribbon cable to the system board or riser card"
on page 13. Then, return to step 7.
7. Remove the adapter from the static-protective package.
8. Complete the following steps to install the adapter. For more information,
see the Option Installation Guide that comes with your server.
a. Carefully grasp the adapter by its top edge or upper corners, and align
it with PCI slot on the system board.
Attention: When you install the adapter in the server, be sure that it
is completely and correctly seated in the system-board connector
before you apply power. Incomplete insertion might cause damage to
the system board or the adapter.
b. Press the adapter firmly into the PCI slot.
