9. Connect the free end of the 20-pin ribbon cable to the Remote Supervisor
Adapter II using the procedure in "Connecting the 20-pin ribbon cable to
the Remote Supervisor Adapter II" on page 14. Then, return to step 10.
10. Replace the server cover.
11. Connect the mini-USB cable to the mini-USB connector on the Remote
Supervisor Adapter II and to the USB connector on the server.
12. Install the server in the rack cabinet (if applicable).
13. Connect the external cables and power cords that you disconnected in
step 1 on page 12.
14. Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet connector on the Remote
Supervisor Adapter II. For more information, see "Cabling the Ethernet
LAN connector" on page 15; then, return to step 15.
15. Connect the video cable of your video device to the video connector on
the Remote Supervisor Adapter II. If the video device is already connected
to the server, remove the video cable from the server and connect it to the
video connector on the Remote Supervisor Adapter II.
16. If you want redundant power, which gives you access to the Remote
Supervisor Adapter II event log when the main server power source is
unavailable, connect the external power-supply adapter that comes with
the Remote Supervisor Adapter II. For information about connecting the
power-supply adapter, see "Connecting the external power-supply
adapter" on page 16. Then, return to step 17.
17. If your Remote Supervisor Adapter II came with an ASM breakout cable
with one serial connector and you want to connect the Remote Supervisor
Adapter II to a modem or to an ASM interconnect network, see
"Connecting the ASM breakout cable with one serial connector" on page
19.
Note: Connecting a modem to the Remote Supervisor Adapter II using
the ASM breakout cable with one serial connector provides dial-out
support only.
18. If your Remote Supervisor Adapter II came with an ASM breakout cable
with dual serial connectors and you want to connect the Remote
Supervisor Adapter II to a modem, terminal server, or to an ASM
interconnect network, see "Connecting the ASM breakout cable with dual
serial connectors" on page 20.
19. Go to "Obtaining Remote Supervisor Adapter II software and firmware"
on page 22.
Connecting the 20-pin ribbon cable to the system board or
riser card
The 20-pin ribbon cable connects the Remote Supervisor Adapter II to the
server system board or riser card and is required for power and data transfer.
