STARTING
WARNING
E x h a u s t g a s e s c o n t a i n c a r b o n
monoxide, which is extremely toxic if
inhaled. Do not start the engine in an
enclosed space or poorly ventilated
area.
Failure to observe this warning may
lead to loss of consciousness or even
death by asphyxia.
Do not get on the vehicle for starting it.
Do not start the engine with the vehicle
positioned on the side stand.

ELECTRIC STARTING

Place the vehicle on the center stand,
see page 55 (PLACING THE VEHICLE
ON THE STAND)
Make sure that the dimmer switch (1) is
in position "
".
Set the engine kill switch (2) to position
" ".

Turn the key (3) and set the ignition
switch to position " ".
NOTE
Do not leave the ignition to " "
with engine off for a long time to prevent
the battery from getting flat.
Check that the "general alarm" light goes
off (see page 29)
.
Lock at least one wheel, by pulling a
brake lever (5).
If this operation is not carried out, the
start relay receives no current and the
starter will not run.
NOTE
After a long period of inactivity,
carry out the operations described at page
29 (STARTING AFTER A LONG PERIOD
OF INACTIVITY).
CAUTION
Press the starter button " " (5) without
accelerating and release it as soon as
the engine starts.

NOTE
Do not hold down the starter
button " " (4) for more than five seconds or
the battery could run flat. If the engine does
not start within this lapse of time, wait ten
seconds before operating the starter
button" " (4) again.
Avoid pressing the starter button " " (4)
when the engine is running, or the starter
motor may damage.
NOTE
Start the engine and then allow
15-20 seconds without touching the throttle
(especially at very low temperatures) in
order to let the engine warm up.
Do not accelerate and at the same time
operate the brake levers until moving off.
