Your cable service pro- vider needs this information to ensure that your modem connects to the Internet successfully. Configuring Your Browser An Internet browser is a program used to find and display Web pages. To find a page, the browser must connect to the Inter- net, either via phone lines or a LAN (Local Area Network). If you are using a cable modem, your browser needs to connect to the Internet via a LAN.

The cable modem’s STS light blinks for 5 minutes, goes off, comes on again, and repeats. Check with your cable service provider to make sure that high speed access is available and running. In rare instances, the cable signal may be weak or noisy. Be sure the modem is attached to one of the ports on the first splitter after the cable enters your home or office.
