Carefully read p. 87 (BATTERY).
To check the electrolyte level, proceed
as follows:
N
Make sure that the ignition switch is in po-
sition "1".
N
Remove the left cover, see p. 73 (RE-
M O V I N G T H E R I G H T A N D L E F T
SIDES).
N
Make sure that the fluid level is included
between the two "MIN" and "MAX" notch-
es stamped on the battery side.
If necessary, proceed as follows:
N
Remove the battery, see p. 89 (REMOV-
ING THE BATTERY).
N
Remove the element plugs.

CAUTION
Do not exceed the "MAX" mark, since
the electrolyte level increases during
the recharge.

Top up the fluid by adding only distilled
water.

Put back the left cover, see p. 73 (RE-
M O V I N G T H E R I G H T A N D L E F T
SIDES).

Remove the red protection element (1).

Make sure that the cable terminals (2) and
the battery terminals (3) are:
– in good conditions (and not corroded or
covered with deposits);
– covered with neutral grease or vase-
line.
If necessary, proceed as follows:

Remove the battery, see p. 89 (REMOV-
ING THE BATTERY).
N
Brush the cable terminals (2) and the
battery terminals (3) with a wire brush, in
order to eliminate any trace of corrosion.
N
Install the battery, see p. 90 (INSTALL-
ING THE BATTERY).
N
Put back the left cover, see p. 73 (RE-
M O V I N G T H E R I G H T A N D L E F T
SIDES).
