Carefully read p. 55 (MAINTENANCE).
NOTE
In case of start at low ambient
temperature [near to or lower than 0° C
(32° F)], see p. 46 (STARTING WITH
COLD ENGINE). In any case, if the normal
r u n n i n g t e m p e r a t u r e h a s n o t b e e n
reached, an anomaly in the engine idling
rpm may be noticed. This is normal, since
the engine idling rpm return to regular val-
ues when the engine reaches the normal
running temperature.
To check the engine idling rpm cor-
rectly, proceed as follows:
N
Ride for a few miles until reaching the
normal running temperature, see p. 17
(Coolant temperature indicator ")").
N
Position the gear lever in neutral (green
warning light "/" on).
N
Check the engine idling rpm on the revo-
lution counter.
The engine idling speed must be about
1300 ± 100 rpm.
If the engine idling rpm are within the
values indicated, do not modify them in
any way.
a
CAUTION
In case of irregular engine idling rpm,
contact exclusively an APRILIA Official
Dealer.
An excessive increase in the engine
idling rpm may cause irregularities in
the operation of the engine and damage
the engine itself and other components.
It is advisable to change the setting
only when it is really necessary (if,
when the throttle grip is released, the
engine stops or keeps running at higher
rpm than prescribed) and it is impossi-
ble to reach an APRILIA Official Dealer.
Only when really necessary:
a
CAUTION
Risk of burns.
Some parts of the vehicle are extremely
hot (for example, the exhaust pipe and,
to a lesser extent, the exhaust pipe
guard).
Wear safety gloves to protect yourself
from those parts of the vehicle whose
temperature is too high.
Proceed with care and do not touch the
exhaust pipe guard for any reason wha-
tsoever.
N
Release the idling adjusting cable (1)
from the cable guide positioned behind
the right stanchion of the frame.
N
Turn the adjusting knob (2).
– BY SCREWING IT (clockwise), you in-
crease the rpm;
– BY UNSCREWING IT (anticlockwise),
you decrease the rpm;
N
Twist the throttle grip, accelerating and
decelerating a few times to make sure
that it functions correctly and to check if
the idling speed is constant.
