4 POST and BIOS Setup Utilities

This chapter describes the POST and BIOS setup utilities provided with the IBM
xSeries 343 server. It also includes information about the Adaptec
information about server management utilities, see Chapter 5.

Secure your system immediately.
Enter the Adaptec SCSI Utility during POST.
Enter BIOS Setup during POST.
Abort memory test during POST.
Display a menu for selecting the boot device.
To remove the splash screen.
To perform a network boot.

Power-On Self-Test (POST)

Each time the system is turned on, the BIOS begins executing the Power-On Self-Test (POST),
which is stored in flash memory. POST discovers, configures, and tests the processors, memory,
keyboard, and most installed peripheral devices. During the memory test, POST displays the
amount of memory that it is able to access and test. The time needed to test memory depends on
the amount of memory installed.
1. Turn on your server and monitor. After a few seconds, POST begins to run and displays a splash
screen.
2. While the splash screen is displayed, make one of the following selections:
Press <F2> to enter the BIOS Setup.
Press <Ctrl-A> to enter the Adaptec SCSISelect* Utility. See page 35 for information about
the Adaptec SCSISelect Utility.

Use to update the BIOS or recover from a corrupted BIOS update.
