Dip Tube

replacement of the dip tube should be performed
by a licensed plumber.
The dip tube is a 40-inch long, 1/2-inch diameter
polyvinyl tube located beneath the cold water inlet
pipe. This tube goes from the top of the water heater
tank to approximately 3 inches from the bottom of
the tank. Incoming cold water flows to the bottom
of the tank, pushing the hot water out of the hot
water outlet pipe. if this tube is damaged or leaks,
any hot water below that point will not be available,
it will just be trapped. Even though the tank is full of
hot water, you may only have a few minutes of hot
water usage.
To replace the tube, the cold water pipe will need to
be removed.
Note:
Dip tube failure is a rare occurrence and should
only be considered at fault when all other
reasons of inadequate hot water are eliminated.
if replacement is necessary, there is a hole
approximately 4¾ inches below the top of the
dip tube. To provide a more accurate water
temperature reading from the T2 sensor, be
sure to align the hole so that it will spray water
towards the T2 sensor.
When replacing the dip tube, use GE part
#WS35X10072.

fails, an F-4 fault is recorded, and the unit switches
to electric mode. The fan is electrically connected to
the compressor overload and the control board. (See
Circuit Board Connections
Note: if the unit switches to electric mode, the fan
will turn off immediately.
To remove the fan:
1. remove the rear shroud cover and the
