Initial Camera Setup

Insert a fully charged battery.

Insert a SD or SDHC memory card.

Set the mode dial to "M" manual.
-
Set Time zone and date.
-
Set shutter speed to 1/60th second or 1/125th second for fast
moving subjects.

Set aperture to F8 for general photography or F22 for macro
photography (close-ups).
-
Set Image Quality to Fine or RAW, and Image Size to "L" Large.

Set White Balance to "Auto" and Active D-Lighting to "Off."

Set ISO to "100" and Release Mode to "S" Single Frame.

Set Noise Reduction to "On."
-
Set AF-area mode to "Single-point AF" and Live-view/movie to
"Normal-area AF."

Set Flash Mode to "Fill Flash," not red-eye reduction.
-
If possible, set Built-in AF-assist illuminator to "Off."
-
Set Metering to "Center-weighted metering."
-
Set Focus Mode to "Single servo AF."

Set Diopter Adjustment Control for optical viewing
Note: This housing is designed for use with an external strobe. Use
the Flash Compensation Dial, page 6, item 5, for TTL or manual flash
compensation. The camera's internal flash cannot be used while in the
housing. Red-eye reduction should be off when connected to a strobe.

Opening the Housing

Lid Snaps have a Lock. To open, push Lid Snap
Lock forward and lift as shown. Keep pressure on
the Lid Snap so it does not fly open quickly.
Lid Snaps have a lot of spring tension once they
go over center, so have a firm grip on the Lid
Snap. Lid Snaps may be opened one at a time.
