Sending SMS (text
messages)
Your device is supplied ready for you to send
text messages immediately.
Prerequisites:
u Calling Line Identification is enabled for
your phone line.
u Your network provider supports SMS on
the fixed network (information on this
can be obtained from your network pro-
vider).
u You are registered with your service pro-
vider to send and receive SMS.
u To receive SMS messages, you must be
registered with your service provider. This
happens automatically when you send
your first SMS.
Please note
u You can access all incoming or saved
SMS messages from all handsets,
regardless of which MSN the handset
is assigned to.
u If your phone is connected to a PABX,
please read page 50.
u The send/receive MSN must corre-
spond to the number that is regis-
tered at your SMS centre (¢ page 49).

Sending SMS (text messages)

u For instructions on entering text and
special characters, please see
page 75.
u An SMS can be up to 612 characters. If
there are more than 160 characters,
the SMS is sent as a linked SMS (up to
4 SMS messages with 153 characters
each). The top right of the display
shows how many characters are still
available and which part of a linked
SMS is currently being written.

Select the number with the local
code (even if you are in that
area) from the directory or enter
it manually. For SMS to an SMS
mailbox: put the mailbox ID at
the end of the number.

Press the display key. The SMS is
sent.
Please note
u If you are interrupted by an external
call while writing an SMS, the text is
automatically saved in the draft mes-
sage list.
u If the memory is full, or if the SMS
function on the base is being used by
another handset, the operation is can-
celled. An appropriate message
appears in the display. Delete SMS
messages you no longer require or
send the SMS later.
