At a minimum, E85 should meet
ASTM Specification D 5798 or
CGSB Specification 3.512. Filling
the tank with fuel mixtures that do
not meet ASTM or CGSB
specifications can affect driveability
and could cause the malfunction
indicator lamp to come on. As the
outside temperature approaches
freezing, ethanol fuel distributors
should supply winter grade ethanol,
the same as with unleaded
gasoline.
The starting characteristics of
E85 fuel make it unsuitable for use
when temperatures fall below 18°C
(0°F). In the range of 18°C (0°F) to
0°C (32°F), it may take more time to
start the engine.
E85 has less energy per liter
(gallon) than gasoline, so you will
need to refill the fuel tank more
often when using E85 than when
you are using gasoline. See

Fuel vapors and fuel fires burn
violently and can cause injury
or death.

To help avoid injuries to you
and others, read and follow
all the instructions on the fuel
pump island.
Turn off the engine when
refueling.
Keep sparks, flames, and
smoking materials away
from fuel.
Do not leave the fuel pump
unattended.
Do not reenter the vehicle
while pumping fuel.
Keep children away from the
fuel pump and never let
children pump fuel.
Fuel can spray out if the fuel
cap is opened too quickly.
This spray can happen if the
tank is nearly full, and is
more likely in hot weather.
