Preventive Maintenance (Generator)
Maintenance on the generator end is minimal:
1. Keep the generator clean, dry, and well-ventilated.
2. Ensure that all connections are clean and tight, and that cables carrying AC voltage are properly sup-
ported and protected against chafing.
*3. The rear armature bearing is lubricated and sealed; no maintenance is required. However,
H
the bear-
ing becomes noisy or rough-sounding, have it replaced.
Generator Frequency Adjustment
Frequency is a direct result of engine/generator speed, as indicated by the following:
When the generator is run at 1800 rpm, the AC voltage output frequency is 60 Hertz. When the generator is
run at 1500 rpm, the AC voltage output frequency is 50 Hertz.
Therefore, to change the generator's frequency, the generator's speed must be changed. To accomplish
the frequency change, connect the AC output leads to the AC terminal block in accordance wtth the "AC Vol-
tage Connections" diagram specified for your generator set, which appears in the "BC GENERATOR" sec-
tion of this manual, page 62.
