Chapter 2: Installation This is an ATX form factor (12.0" x 9.6", 30.5 x 24.4 cm) motherboard. Before you install the motherboard, study the configuration of your chassis to ensure that the motherboard fits into it. 2.1 pre-installation precautions Take note of the following precautions before you install motherboard com- ponents or change any motherboard settings.
2.3 CpU Installation For the installation of Intel 1150-Pin Load Plate Load Lever CPU, please follow the steps below. Socket Body Contact Array 1150-Pin Socket Overview Before you insert the 1150-Pin CPU into the socket, please check if the CPU surface is unclean or if there are any bent pins in the socket.
Page 44
1. It is recommended to use the cap tab to handle and avoid kicking off the PnP cap. 2. This cap must be placed if returning the motherboard for after service. Step 3. Insert the 1150-Pin CPU: Step 3-1. Hold the CPU by the edge which is marked with a black line.
Page 45
Step 4. Close the socket: Step 4-1. Flip the load plate onto the IHS. Step 4-2. Press down the load lever, and secure it with the load plate tab under the retention tab.
2.4 Installation of CpU Fan and Heatsink This motherboard is equipped with 1150-Pin socket that supports Intel 1150-Pin CPUs. Please adopt the type of heatsink and cooling fan com- pliant with Intel 1150-Pin CPU to dissipate heat. Before you install the heatsink, you need to spray thermal interface material between the CPU and the heatsink to improve heat dissipation.
2.5 Installation of Memory Modules (DIMM) This motherboard provides four 240-pin DDR3 (Double Data Rate 3) DIMM slots, and supports Dual Channel Memory Technology. For dual channel configuration, you always need to install two identical (the same brand, speed, size and chip-type) memory modules in the DDR3 DIMM slots to activate Dual Channel Memory Technology.
Installing a DIMM Please make sure to disconnect the power supply before add- ing or removing DIMMs or system components. Step 1. Unlock a DIMM slot by pressing the retaining clips outward. Step 2. Align a DIMM on the slot such that the notch on the DIMM matches the break on the slot.
Please note that PCIE3 and PCIE5 are available ONLY when the second CPU (CPU_AP1) is installed. E3C224-V4L/E3C224-V+: There are 4 PCI Express slots on the motherboard. pCIE slots: PCIE3 (PCIE 2.0 x1 slot) is used for PCI Express x1 lane width cards, such as a Gigabit LAN card or SATA2 card, etc.
In single VGA card mode, it is recommended to install a PCI Express x16 graphics card on PCIE6 slot. Installing an expansion card Step 1. Before installing an expansion card, please make sure that the power supply is switched off or the power cord is unplugged. Please read the documentation of the expansion card and make necessary hardware settings for the card before you start the installation.
2.7 Jumpers Setup The illustration shows how jumpers are setup. When the jumper cap is placed on pins, the jumper is “Short”. If no jumper cap is placed on pins, the jumper is “Open”. The illustration shows a 3-pin jumper whose pin1 and pin2 are “Short”...
2.8 Onboard Headers and Connectors Onboard headers and connectors are NOT jumpers. Do NOT place jumper caps over these headers and connectors. Plac- ing jumper caps over the headers and connectors will cause permanent damage to the motherboard! Serial ATA2 Connectors These two Serial ATA2 (SATA2) connectors sup- (SATA_4_5)
USB 2.0 Headers Besides two default USB USB_PWR and Ports 2.0 ports on the I/O panel, DUMMY there are are two USB 2.0 (9-pin USB_2_3) (see p.22, 25, 28, 31) headers and one port on (9-pin USB_4_5) this motherboard. Each USB USB_PWR (see p.22, 25, 28, 31) 2.0 header can support two...

Connect the power switch, reset switch and system status indica- tor on the chassis to this header according to the pin assignments below. Note the positive and negative pins before connecting the cables. pWRBtN (power Switch): Connect to the power switch on the chassis front panel. You may configure the way to turn off your system using the power switch.
