3. Remove the server cover. See "Removing the server cover" on page 85.
4. Locate the backplane. See "Components of server models with 2.5-inch hard disk drive bays" on
page 34.
5. Remove all the installed 2.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives and dummy trays (if any) from the hard disk
drive cage (right cage or middle cage). See "Installing or replacing a hot-swap hard disk drive" on
page 150.
6. Record the cable connections on the backplane and then disconnect all cables from the backplane.
7. Remove the three screws that secure the backplane and then carefully lift the backplane out of the
chassis.

8. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new hot-swap hard disk drive backplane to any
unpainted surface on the outside of the server. Then, remove the new backplane from the package.
Note: Carefully handle the backplane by its edges.
