INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE
Notes
Your outboard motor should receive
careful, and complete inspection at
1
300 hours. This is the best time for
major maintenance procedures to be
carried out.

Replacing engine oil
3
Engine oil mixed with dust or water
will dramatically shorten the life of the
engine.

To change engine oil:
Stop the engine and set it in a

vertical position.
Remove the top cowl and oil filler
cap. Allow it to cool.

Put a oil drain pan under the oil
drain screw.
Remove the oil drain screw and

completely drain oil from the
engine.
Tighten the oil drain screw.

Fill the engine through filler port
with recommended oil (see chart
9
below) to the upper dipstick mark.
Tighten the oil filler cap.

engine oil to insure performance and
prolonged engine life.
Use oils that carry the API rating of SF,
SG, SH, or SJ. Select the appropriate
viscosity, based on atmospheric
temperature, from the chart below.
20W−40, 20W−50
15W−40, 15W−50

10W-30: is recommended for use in
all temperature.
25W-40: may be used at temperatures
above 4˚C (40˚F).

Use of engine oils that do not meet
these requirements will result in reduced
engine life, and other engine problems.
