Charging the battery
When the Tablet PC is connected to AC power, the battery automatically charges until it
reaches full charge, even if the Tablet PC is being used. The battery status light on the Tablet
PC will blink amber when the battery is installed and AC power is applied to the Tablet PC.
If two batteries are installed and the Tablet PC is on, the charging sequence is staggered to
ensure that both batteries are being fully charged at nearly the same time. The batteries are
charges as described below:
1. The battery that the Tablet PC was last using charges to 90%.
2. The other battery in the Tablet PC charges to 100%.
3. The first battery charges from 90% to100%.
4. The battery in the docking station, if any, charges to 100%.
When the Tablet PC is off, in hibernate mode, or in sleep mode, the batteries are charged
simultaneously. If there is a battery in the docking station, it is charged simultaneously with
the two batteries in the Tablet PC.
For information about the battery status light, see "Battery status light" on page 12.
CAUTION:
To avoid injury, keep the battery within the recommended temperature range
while it is charging. If the battery has been subjected to a hot environment, wait until it
cools to room temperature before recharging it. For more information, see the Safety and
Regulatory Guide included with the Tablet PC.
Battery and power management tips
•
To lengthen the battery's usable life, use AC power when you can. The battery will charge
automatically while you run on AC power, so leave the battery in the Tablet PC while you
are working.
•
For optimal battery life, use AC power when using a CD or DVD player.
•
When running on battery power, place the system in Hibernate or Sleep mode if you are
going to leave it unattended for more than a few minutes (page 41).
•
Remember that the display, processor, wireless cards, and accessories all draw on the
battery, so adjust properties and disable unused accessories while running on battery
power.
•
When running on battery power, adjust the display brightness to a dimmer setting and
enable Dynamic brightness. See "Adjusting the display brightness" on page 34.
•
Turn off wireless devices when they are not being used.
