GearShaft
Thegear(hex)shaftshouldbelubricated at leastonceaseason or after every25
hoursof operation.
I.
Topreventspillage, r emove all fuel fromtank byrunningengineuntil it
stops.
2.
Carefully pivotthe snowthrowerupandforwardsothat it restsonthe auger
housing.
3.
Remove t he lowerframecoverfrom the underside of the snowthrowerby
removing the self-tapping screws whichsecure it.
4.
Applya lightcoatingof engineoil (or3-in-1oil) to the hexshaft.SeeFigure
23.
NOTE: Whenlubricating the hexshaft,becareful n ot to get anyoil onthe aluminum
driveplateor rubberfrictionwheel.Doing sowill hinderthe snowthrower'sdrive
system. W ipeoff anyexcess o r spilledoil.
Wheels
Atleastonceaseason, r emove bothwheels.Clean andcoattheaxleswitha
multipurpose automotive greasebeforereinstalling wheels.
Auger Shaft
Atleastonceaseason, r emove the shearpinson augershaft.Spray lubricantinside
shaft,andaroundthe spacers a ndflangebearings foundat eitherendof the shaft.

ShavePlate and Skid Shoes
Theshave plateandskidshoes on the bottomofthe snowthroweraresubjectto
wear. T heyshouldbechecked periodically andreplaced whennecessary.
flOTE: T heskidshoes on thismachine havetwo wearedges. W henonesidewears
out,theycanberotated180 °to usethe otheredge.
Toremove skidshoes:
Remove thetwocarriage b olts, w ashers, and hexflange nuts thatsecure
each skid shoe tothesnow thrower.
2.
Reassemble newskidshoes with the fourcarriage bolts(two on eachside),
washers, a ndhexflangenuts.Refer t o Figure 25.
Toremove shaveplate:
1.
Remove t he carriage boltsandhexnutswhichattachit to the snowthrower
housing.
2.
Reassemble newshaveplate,making sureheads of carriage boltsareto the
inside of housing. T ighten securely. S eeFigure 25.
