To Drain The Water Heater Storage Tank
If the water heater is running, wait for it to shut
down before continuing.
1.
Turn "OFF" the electrical supply to the water
heater.
2.
Turn "OFF" the gas supply at the main gas
shut-off valve if the water heater is going to be
shut down for an extended period.
3.
Open a nearby hot-water faucet until the water
is no longer hot.
4.
Close the cold-water inlet valve.
5.
Connect a hose to the drain valve and
terminate it to an adequate drain or external to
the building.
6.
Open the water heater drain valve and allow all
the water to drain from the tank.
NOTE: If the water heater is going to be shut
down and drained for an extended period, the
drain valve should be left open.
7.
Close the water heater drain valve when all
water in the storage tank has drained.
8.
To refill the water heater, follow the
instructions in the "Filling the Water Heater"
section.
9.
Turn "ON" the gas supply at the main gas shut-
off valve.
10. Follow the lighting instructions on the label or
see "Lighting Instruction" to restart the water
heater.
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN ON POWER TO THE
WATER HEATER UNLESS THE TANK IS FULL.
OPEN A HOT-WATER FAUCET AND ALLOW THE
WATER TO RUN UNTIL THE AIR IS PURGED
AND THE WATER FLOWS UNINTERRUPTED
FROM THE FAUCET.
IMPORTANT: When operating a cold tank,
condensation can occur and drip on the burner.
This should not be confused with a tank leak.
To Flush The Water Heater Storage Tank
If the water heater is running, wait for it to shut
down before continuing.
1.
Turn "OFF" the electrical supply to the water
heater.
2.
Open a nearby hot-water faucet until the water
is no longer hot. Once water is cool, close
faucet.
3.
Connect a hose to the drain valve and
terminate it to an adequate drain or external to
the building.
4.
Ensure the drain hose is secured before and
during the entire flushing procedure. Flushing is
performed with system water pressure applied
to the water heater.
5.
Open the water heater drain valve to flush the
storage tank.
6.
Flush the water heater storage tank to remove
sediment and allow the water to flow until it
runs clean.
7.
Close the water heater drain valve when
flushing is completed.
8.
Remove the drain hose.
9.
Ensure the heater is full of water.
10. Turn "ON" electrical supply to place water
heater back in operation and follow the lighting
instructions.
