    Functional Component Defi nitions MECHANICAL COMPONENTS Vent door Allows introduction of fresh air into the room and/or exhausts stale room air outside (on select models.) Plenum assembly Diffuser with directional louvers used to direct the conditioned airfl ow. Blower wheel Attaches to the indoor side of the fan motor shaft and is used for distributing unconditioned, room side air though the heat exchanger and delivering conditioned air into the room.

    Refrigeration System Sequence of Operation A good understanding of the basic operation of the refrigera- tion system is essential for the service technician. Without this understanding, accurate troubleshooting of refrigeration system problems will be more diffi cult and time consuming, if not (in some cases) entirely impossible.

    Refrigerant Charging NOTE: BECAUSE THE RAC SYSTEM IS A SEALED SYSTEM, SERVICE PROCESS TUBES WILL HAVE TO BE INSTALLED. FIRST INSTALL A LINE TAP AND REMOVE REFRIGERANT FROM SYSTEM. MAKE NECESSARY SEALED SYSTEM REPAIRS AND VACUUM SYSTEM. CRIMP PROCESS TUBE LINE AND SOLDER END SHUT.

    Refrigerant Charging UNDERCHARGED REFRIGERANT SYSTEMS An undercharged system will result in poor performance (low pressures, etc.) in both the heating and cooling cycle. Whenever you service a unit with an under charge of refrigerant, always suspect a leak. The leak must be repaired before charging the unit.

    Refrigerant Charging RESTRICTED REFRIGERANT SYSTEM A quick check for either condition begins at the evaporator. With a partial restriction, there may be gurgling sounds at the metering device entrance to the evaporator. The evaporator in a partial restriction could be partially frosted or have an ice ball close to the entrance of the metering device.
