Adjusting the image settings
The options on the PICTURE menu allow you to adjust the picture levels for an optimum
image.The DVP1080MF provides the following image adjustments: Brightness, contrast,
colour, tint, and detail. Tint is only available with composite or S-Video sources. The setting
of each image adjustment is stored for each of the video inputs.
To display the PICTURE menu
• Press Menu to display the INPUT menu.
• Press > to display the PICTURE menu:

• Press A or V to step between the options on the PICTURE menu.
These are described in greater detail below.
All the options apart from ADVANCED COLOUR can also be selected by pressing the
appropriate key on the remote control.
To adjust a picture level
• Select the appropriate option on the PICTURE menu, or press the corresponding button
on the remote control; Bright, Cont., Colour, Tint, or Detail.
The front panel display shows the current setting for the input, from 0-100, together with a
graphical slider bar showing the setting:

Either:
• Enter the setting using the number keys on the remote control.
Or:
• Press < or > to decrease or increase the level.

After adjusting a setting you can step between the picture level menus using the A and V
keys.
The recommended procedure is to adjust the brightness and contrast of the display device
first, and then for individual movies or channels.
Each picture level should be adjusted for each source using the suggested reference test
pattern in the following sections.
To adjust the brightness
BRIGHTNESS

• Adjust so that the shadows are as dark as possible but subtle details are still visible,
such as seeing the wrinkles in a dark suit on a person standing in the shadows.
Suggested test pattern: PLUGE.
To adjust the contrast
CONTRAST

• Adjust so the lightest areas are as bright as possible but detail is still visible, such as
seeing the details in clouds on a sunny sky.
The image is too bright if the lightest bars in the test pattern disappear or start to change
colour.
Suggest test pattern: 10 STEP GRAY.
To adjust the colour
COLOR
|••••••
• Adjust for accurate colours. Film originated sources typically have more subtle colour
levels than video originated sources (sports, TV shows).
Suggested test pattern: REVERSE COLOR BARS.
