Scene Mode (Shooting
Suited to Scenes)
Characteristics
of Each Scene
• Use of a tripod is recommended in scenes with which [_] is indicated. Set
Vibration
reduction in the setup menu (_104)
to Off when using a tripod to
stabilize the camera.
• For scene modes that use the flash, be sure to press the _ _ (flash pop-up)
button to raise the flash before shooting (_7).
Fr_ Scene auto selector
When you frame a picture, the camera automatically
selects the optimum
scene for simpler
shooting.

Other scenes
• When the camera automatically
selects a scene mode, the shooting
mode icon changes
to that for the scene mode currently enabled.
• The camera automatically
selects the focus area for autofocus in accordance with the
composition.
The camera detects and focuses on faces (see "Using Face Detection"
([_)85) for more information).
• Depending
upon shooting conditions, the camera may not select the desired scene
mode. Should this occur, switch to I_1 (auto) mode (_28)
or select the optimum
scene
mode for the subject manually.
• The digital zoom is not available.

Use this mode for portraits.
• The camera detects and focuses on a face (see "Using Face
Detection"
(_85)
for more information).
• After the skin softening feature makes the subject's skin
appear smoother, the camera records the image (_86).
• If no faces are detected, the camera focuses on the subject
at the center of the frame.
• The digital zoom is not available.

Landscape
Use this mode for vivid landscapes and cityscapes.
• When the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the AF/
access lamp always lights in green.
