To avoid the mentioned error message when trying to use the Babyface with the iPad, make sure to connect all items in the right order: first connect the CCK with the Babyface, then plug it into the iPad – and the Babyface will start without that error message on the iPad. The long version: Connect Babyface to an external power supply, connect the USB cable to the BF, connect the CCK to this USB cable, then plug the CCK into the iPad.

Without an SPDIF or ADAT input signal the Babyface enters master mode and uses the sample rate set by Mac OS X or iOS (the app in use). The Babyface can be set to fixed Master mode as well, but the set sample rate is ignored, as the iPad (the current app) controls the sample rate value.

The Babyface stays in CC mode until this procedure has been performed again. With only one LED on left and right side lit during power-on, the Babyface is in normal mode.
