12cmdisc
A disc with adiameterof 12cm.You cannot
use 12cm discs with this DVD Handycam.
5.1chsurround sound
A system
that
plays
back
sound
on 6
speakers, 3at the front (]eft, right and center/
and 2 at the rear (right and left) with an
additional low-pass subwoolk.r counted as a
0.1 channel for frequencies of 120Hz or
lower. The subwoofer is only counted as 0.1
channel because its playfiack band is narrow.
The all-round audio reproduction is more
realistic than stere(),which only reproduces
movement of sound from side to side.
• 8cmdisc
A disc _ith a diameter of 8cm. You can use
8cm discs with DVD Handycam.
Disc title
The title (name) given to a recorded disc.
Dolby Digital
An audio encoding (compression) system
developed by Dolfiy Laboratories Inc.
Sound can be recorded in various formats,
from 5.1ch surround to 2ch stere() or
monaural
audio.
Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator
Sound compression technology developed
by Dolby Laboratories Inc. which
compresses audio efficiently while
preserving high sound quality. It enables
recording of 5. l ch surround sound while
using disc space more efficiently. Discs
created by Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator can be
played back on a DVD recorder or device
compatible with the disc on DVD
Handycam. If you own a 5. Ich system (such
as a home theater system) you can enjoy a
powerfid sound.
Double-sided d isc
Disc
that
can be recorded
on both
sides.
DVDmenu
A menu screen that enables you to select a
particular scene from a disc being played
back on a DVD device or other device. You
can create a DVD menu with DVD
Handycam showing the beginning of each
scene with date.
DVD-R
A DVD format that does not enahle re-
recording. It is mostly used for saving data
that does not need to be edited. It is
characterized by excellent playback
compatibility with olher DVD devices.
Bel2)re finalizing, you can additionally
record onto the disc's free space. Once the
disc isfinalized, howe; er, you cannot record
onto it even if it has some free space left.
DVD-RW
A re-rccordafile DVD format. You can
choose fronl two kinds of
recording
mode:
VIDEO mode, which stresses high playback
compatibility with other DVD devices, and
VR rood< which enables various editing
with DVD Handycam after recording.
DVD+RW
A re-recordable DVD fornlat providing high
playfiack compatibility wilh other DVD
devices. Discs do not require finalizing so
they can be re-recorded anytime.
• Finalizing
The process of making discs rl:corded on
DVD Handycam compatible for playback
on other DVD de'.ices. DVD-R/DVD-RW
discs must be finalized before being played
on another DVD device.
• Formatting
The process of d,-'h.'tingall recorded movies
from a disc and restoring its original storage
capacity so that it can be rerecorded onto.
