OPERATION
START THE ENGINE
Besure thatengine oil isatFULL mark ontheoil fill cap/dipstick. Thesnow
thrower engine isequipped withanA.C.electric s tarter andrecoil s tarter. Before
starting t heengine, becertain that y ouhave read thefollowing information.
If engine floods, setthechoke totheOPEN/RUN position and crank until t heen-
gine starts.
,A_WARNING: Theelectricstarteris equipped with a
three-wire powercordand plug designed to operateon AC
house holdcurrent. T hepowercordmust be properly
groundedat all times to avoidthe possibility of electricshock
which cancauseinjurytothe operator.Followall instructions
carefully as set forth:
Make sureyourhouse hasa three=wiregroundedsystem.
Ifyou are notsure,ask a licensed electrician. I f yourhouse does
nothavea three-wire groundedsystem,do notusethis electric
starter underanycondition.
Ifyourhousehas a three-wire groundedsystembut a three-hole
receptacleis not availableto connect t he electricstarter, havea
three-hole receptacle installedbya licensedelectrician.

WARNING:To connectpower cord, always connectthe
power cordfirst to the switch box located on the
engine and then plug the other end into a three-hole
grounded receptacle.

WARNING: To disconnectthe power cord, always
unplug the end connectedto the three-hole grounded
receptacle first.
Start the engine as follows:
1. Check theoil level. S ee the"Check/Add Oil"section intheENGINE
MANUAL.
2. Make sure equipment drivecontrols a redisengaged.
3. Push theON/OFF switch (A,Figure 8)totheONposition.

4. Insertthesafetykey(A, Figure9) intothesafety keyslot andpush
fully in to theRUNposition.
5. Turnthechokeknob(B)fully clockwise if engineis cold.
NOTE:Do not use the choke to start a warm engine.
6. Pushtheprimerbutton(C)two times.
NOTE:Do not use the primer to start a warm engine.
NOTE:Ensurethat electric extension cordis removedfrom the
power receptacle.

7. BewindStart: Firmlyholdthestarter c ordhandle (A,Figure 10).Pull
thestarter c ordhandle slowlyuntilresistance isfelt,thenpullrapidly.

WARNING: Rapid retractionof the starter cord (kickback)
will pull your hand and arm toward the engine faster
than you can let go. Brokenbones, fractures, bruises,
or sprains could result. When starting engine, pull the
starter cordslowly until resistance is felt and then pull
rapidlyto avoid kickback.
NOTE:If the engine does not start after three attempts, see the
Engine Manual Troubleshooting section.
8. Electric Start: Firstconnect theextension c ordtothepower c ord
receptacle andthenintoawallreceptacle. If additional extension c ordis
required, make sureit is three-wire.

WARNING: if the extension cord is damaged, it must
be replaced bythe manufacturer(or its service agent)
or a similarly qualified personto avoid a hazard.
