Using Manual Focus
Available when the shooting mode is P, S,
A, M, U
or _he Sports scene mode.
Select a shooting mode with the mode dial (_44).
1 Press_ (focus mode) on the multi
selector to display the setup menu
for focus mode.
• Use the multi selector to choose MF
(manual focus) and press the _) button.
-_, • _ is displayed on the top of the monitor,

o center of the picture are displayed at the same time.

2 Adjust the focus, m _s'_ ,_
• Use the multi sdector to adjust the focus while viewing
o_ the image on the monitor.
,_ • Press • tofocus on far subjects.
• Press • to focus on near subjects.

D • Press the shutter-rdease button halfway to check the
-_ composition. Press the shutter-rdease button the rest of
c the way down to take the picture.

• The set focus is locked. You can continue shooting with
the locked focus.
• To readjust the focus, press the _) button again to
display the screen in step 2.
• To change back to autofocus, return to step 1 and choose
any setting other than MF.

• In step 2, the figu re displayed with the gauge at tile right of the monitor indicates an approximate
distance (m) at which the subject can be in focus when the gauge is near the center, Depending
on the zoom position, 1 (wide angle position), 3 or 5 (telephoto position) is displayed, To see
whether the subject is in focus, check the subject on the monitor.
• Pressthe shutteprNease button halfwayto previewan approximate depth of field (the area in focus
behind and in front of the subject).
• Set Assign side zoom control (_ 198) in the setu p menu (_ 185) to Manual focus to focus by
using the side zoom control instead of • or • in step 2.
• The digital zoom is not available.
