To Start The Engine
DisconnectalI electrical loads from the generator. NEVER
start or stop engine with electrical devices piugged in and
turned ON. Foilow start instruction steps in numerical order:
I. Make sure unit is on a level surface.
IMPORTANT:Failureto start and operate unit on a Ievei
surface wiii cause the unit not to start or shut down during
operation.
2. Turn fueI vaive to "On" position. Fuei valve handle
should be vertical (pointing toward ground) for fuel to
flow.
WARNING
Contact with muffler area can result in serious
burns.

Exhaust heat/gases can ignite combustibies,
structures or damage fue! tank causing a fire.

DONOT touch hotpartsandAVOID hot exhaustgases.
Allowequipment t o coolbeforetouching.
Keepat least5 feet (1.5m) of clearance on all sidesof
generator i ncludingoverhead.

3. Place choke lever in "Choke" position.
4. Set rocker switch to "On" position.
5. Grasp recoil handb and pull slowly until slight
resistance is felt. Then pull rapidly to start engine.
WARNING
Starter cord kickback (rapid retraction) can result
n bodiiy injury=Kickback wiii puff hand and arm
!oward engine faster than you can iet go.
Broken bones, fractures, bruises, or sprains
souid result.
o Whenstartingengine,pull cordslowly' u ntil resistance isfelt and
then pull rapidlyto avoidkickback.
• NEVER start or stop engine with ebctricaldevicespluggedin
andturnedon.
IMPORTANT:If engine floods, place choke lever in "Run"
position and crank untii engine starts.
6. Move choke bver to "Run" position a short distance at
a time over severai seconds in warm weather or
minutes in cold weather. Let engine run smoothty
before each change. Operatewith choke in "Run"
position.
NOTE:if engine starts after 3 pulls but faiis to run, or if unit
shuts down during operation, make sure unit is on a ievel
surface and check for proper oil bvei in crankcase. This unit
may be equipped with a iow oii protection device. If so, oil
must be at proper level for engine to start.
Concocting Electrical Loads
o Let the engine stabilize and warm up for a few minutes
after starting=
o DONOT connect240Voit ioadsto 120Volt receptacles=
o DO NOTconnect 3-phase ioads to the generator=
o DO NOTconnect 50 Hz ioads to the generator=
o Plug in and turn on the desired 120 Volt AC, singb
phase, 60 Hertz etectrbaI loads.
o DO NOT OVERLOAD THE GENERATOR. See Don't
Overload Generator.
NOTICE
Exceedinggenerators wattage/amperagecapacity can
damagegenerator and/or electrical devicesconnected to it.
DONOTexceed the generator's wattage/amperage capacity.See
DonYOverload Generator i n the Operation s ection.
Startgenerator a nd letenginestabilizebeforeconnecting
electrical l oads.
Connect e lectrical l oadsin OFF position_ thenturn ONfor
operation.
Turnelectrical l oadsOFF anddisconnect f rom generator b efore
stoppinggenerator.
Stopping the Engine
1= Turn off and unplug aii eiectricai ioads from unit=
NEVERstart or stop engine with ebctrbai devices
ptugged in and turned on=
2= Let engine run at no=ioadfor two minutes to stabilize
unit's internal temperatures=
3= Move rocker switch to "Off" position=
4= Move fuel valve to "Off" position=
