General Recommendations
Always observe safetyruleswhenperforminganymaintenance.
Thewarrantyonthisedger/trencher doesnot coveritemsthat havebeen
subjected to operatorabuse or negligence. Toreceive full valuefrom
warranty, o peratormustmaintainthe equipment a s
instructed here.
Changing of engine-governed s peed will voidengine warranty.
All adjustments shouldbe checked a t leastonceeachseason.
Periodically c heck all fasteners andmakesurethesearetight.
Engine Maintenance
SparkPlug
Forgoodperformance, the sparkplug mustbe properly gapped andfreeof
deposits. R eplace t he sparkplug annually.
1.
Disconnect the capfrom the sparkplug,andremove anydirt from the spark
plugarea.
2.
Use the propersizesparkplug wrench to remove the sparkplug.
NOTE: Replace w ith aChampionRC12YC s parkplug.
3.
Check t he gap(A)with a wiregauge(B).SeeFigure 14.Spark pluggap
shouldbe0.020in (0.51mm).If necessary, resetthe gap.
4.
Installandtightenthe sparkplugto the recommended t orque(180Ib-in [20
Nm]).
5.
Attachthe sparkplug capto the sparkplug.
Air Cleaner
Adirty air cleaner w ill restrictairflow to thecarburetorandcause poorengine
performance. Inspect t he filter eachtime the engineisoperated. Y ouwill needto
cleanthe filter morefrequentlyif youoperate the engineinverydustyareas.
Clean the air cleaner e very25hoursofoperationor oncea season. R eplace t he air
cleaner a nnually.
Neverstart or run the engine with the air cleanerassemblyor the air filter
removed.
NOTE: Donot usepressurized a iror solvents to cleanthe filter. Pressurized air can
damage thefilter andsolvents will dissolve the filter.
Theaircleaner s ystemuses afoamelement t hat canbewashedandreused.
1.
Openthecover(B)andremove the foamelement ( (). SeeFigure 15.
2.
Wash the foamelementinliquiddetergent a ndwater.Squeeze d ry the foam
element i n acleancloth.
3.
Saturate the foamelementwith clean engineoil.Toremove the excess
engineoil,squeeze t he foamelementinacleancloth.
4.
Installthefoamelement a ndclose the cover.
