inenclosed,poorlyventilated areas.Engine exhaust containscarbon
monoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas. Keephands,feet, hair andloose
dotNng away from any moving parts on engine andlawnmower.
ToStart Engine
1.
Movethe bladedepthcontrolleverbackto the START positioninthe
adjacent ( top)notch.
2.
Push the primerthreetimes.SeeFigure 9. Donot primeto restartawarm
engine.
NOTE: Ifyoupushthe primertoo manytimes,excessive f uelwill floodthe
carburetor a ndthe enginewill bedifficult to start.
3.
Standing behindthe edger,depress t he bladecontrolandholdit against t he
upperhandlewithyourleft hand.
Thisblade control mechanismisasafetydevice.Neverattempt to bypass
its operation.
4.
Withyourfight hand,grasprecoil s tarterhandle andpullropeslowlyuntil
resistance i s felt, thenpullwith arapid,continuous, full armstroke.See
Figure 9.Keeping afirm griponthe startercordhandle,letthe roperewind
slowly.Repeat u ntil enginecranks. L etthe roperewindeachtime slowly.
Keep a firm grip onthe cordhandle andmaintain sufficient backward
tension on the cordat all times to preventrapidstarter cordretraction
(kickback).Rapidretraction canpullarm and handtoward the engine
faster than you can let go, and resultin brokenbones,fractures,bruisesor
sprains.
ToStop Engine
1.
Release b ladecontrol t o stopthe engineandblade.
Edging
Rotatingcutting blade maythrow objectscausingpersonal i njury.Keep
area clearof bystandersand do not operate without guardsin place.
Donot lowerblade if bladeisoverconcrete,asphalt, rocksor the like. Blade
can strike supporting surface,resulting in personalinjuryor property
damage.
Tobeginedging,proceed asfollows:
1.
Moveedgerto anareato beedged, m akingsurethatthe left rearwheelison
ahardsurface andthe bladeisoverthe areato becut. SeeFigure 10.

With the bladecontrol s queezed a gainst t he handleinthe operating
position, m akea pass alongareato beedgedbeforeproceeding to the next
notch. T hefurther forwardthat the bladedepthcontrolleverismoved,the
deeperor lowerthe bladewill cut intothe ground.Several passes m aybe
necessary to obtainthe desired depthof cut.Donot lowerblademorethan
onedepth notchata timewithout makingapass.
3.
Forbestresults, p roceed slowlyalongthe pathbeingedged. S lowlymove
edgerbackandforth throughcuttingarea,againmakingsureto keepthe
left rearwheelon the hardsurface andthe bladeinthe cuttingpath,close to
but not touching the edge of the hardsurface.
4.
Once youhavefinishededgingselected area,raisethe bladedepthcontrol
leverbackinto the START position,moveto the next areato beedged, a nd
proceed againfromstep 1.
