AF
Autofocus
The camera automatically adjusts the focus according to the distance to the subject.
Use when the distance from the subject to the lens is 50 cm (1 ft 8 in.) or more, or
80 cm (2 ft 8 in.) or more at the maximum telephoto
zoom position.
Macro close-up
Use for close-ups of flowers or small objects.
How dose you can be to the subject while shooting depends on the zoom ratio.
When the zoom ratio is set to a position where _ and the zoom indicator light in
green, the camera can focus on subjects as dose as 7 cm (2.8 in.) from the lens. At the
maximum wide-angle zoom position (the zoom position _),
the camera can focus
on subjects as close as 2 cm (0.8 in.) from the lens.
Infinity
Use when shooting distant scenes through window glass or when shooting landscapes.
When the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the AF/access [amp always lights
in green. However, the camera may not be able to focus on nearby objects. The flash
mode is set to (_ (off).
MF
Manual focus
The focus can be adjusted for any subject that is a distance of 2 cm (0.8 in.) to infinity
from the lens (_2).
The closest distance at which the camera can focus varies
depending on the zoom position.
• This function can be used when the shooting mode is P, S, A, M, Ul, U2, U3,
(low noise night), special effects mode or scene mode Sports.

P,S, A,M, U1,U2 orU3
mode if Autofocus mode in the shooting menu (_54)
is
set to Full-time AF,or when using NJ_ (movie) mode ifAutofocus
mode inthe movie menu (_101)
is set to Full-time AF, the camera will adjust focus even if the shutter release button is not pressed
halfway
When using other shooting modes, Full-time AF is turned on automatically when macro mode is
turned on
You may hear the sound of the camera focusing

Infinity
If you set focus mode to infinity while using I_1 (auto) mode, P, S, A, M U1, U2 or U3 mode, 1_
(low noise night) mode or special effects mode, the focus area is not displayed on the screen,
