5.2.13 Paper Gap Adjustment

Paper Gap Adjustment is performed to provide a proper gap between
the printhead surface and paper surface. It must be made under the
following conditions. (This adjustment can not be made without
removing the upper case.)
1. Any of the following operations which involve carriage guide
shaft removal has been performed.
- Replacing the carriage guide shaft
- Replacing the felt oil pad at the back of the carriage
(when supplying O-8 oil)
- Replacing the carriage unit
2. Right/left parallelism adjustment bushing has been moved,
removed or replaced.
1. Set the right and left parallelism adjustment bushings to the middle
position of the corresponding adjustable range. Make sure the
screws fixing the parallelism adjustment bushings are loosened for
this operation.

2. Install dummy cartridges (empty cartridges) and close the both
clamps.
3. Set the PG lever (blue) to the rear (PG = wider).
4. If the carriage is locked, release the carriage lock from the back of
the printer mechanism.
5. Move the carriage to the center and place the thickness gauge
(Specifications: 1.14 mm, 5 cm in length) over the right end of the
Front Paper Guide's top surface.

6. Bring the PG lever (blue) back to the front (PG = narrower).
7. By pulling the timing belt manually, move the carriage to the position
where the thickness gauge is set.
NOTE:
Do not push the carriage unit directly to move it. Doing so presses
the carriage down and the paper gap adjustment is not correctly
done.
8. When the printhead is in contact with the thickness gauge, check if
the thickness gauge moves.
