Cluster Terms and Components
This section provides brief definitions of clustering terms. This information provides basic
knowledge of clusters and the terminology used throughout this document.
Nodes
The most basic parts of a cluster are the server heads. A server node is any individual computer
in a cluster or a member of the cluster. If the NAS device is a member of a cluster, then the
server heads are referred to as nodes.
Resources
Hardware and software components that are managed by the cluster service are called cluster
resources. Cluster resources have three defining characteristics:
Examples of cluster resources are IP addresses, network names, physical disk resources, and
file shares.
